GET YOUR HANDS NOT SO DIRTY
Farm without mud
Build experience and meet others interested in indoor farming, growing produce for chefs, and being around interesting plants.
This is the only farming activity that stays fun, whatever the weather. There is no other opportunity like this in NYC.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
First, sign up using the link below. You'll be asked to fill in a short agreement, and indicate times you are available.
All Lend a Hand participants must complete an orientation the first time they visit the farm. Orientation sessions happen every couple of weeks.
ABOUT THE FARM
Inside the Institute of Culinary Education in Downtown Manhattan, Farm. One grows in a compact, completely clean, controlled indoor environment with color-enriching LED lights, hydroponics and a chef's touch.
Please note - Lend a Hand spots are limited, and those who have attended our classes have first preference.
ABOUT LENDING A HAND
Please note, this is not a class or tour - you will have some chance to chat and ask a few questions, but the focus is on working to help the farm. For detailed Q&A and hydroponic instruction, please take a class. For tasting, take a tour.
Each Lend a Hand session is over 2 hours - we prefer that you stay for the entire session.
You must be over 16 OR over 12 and accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Please dress appropriately, with sensible shoes and clean clothing that may get wet or dirty during your session.
Hygiene and safety are important on the farm. You must comply with the directions of our Farm Manager.
You will be assigned manual labor tasks. These tasks may include cleaning up and other essential activities
- If you visit regularly, you'll have the chance to build experience and do the most interesting tasks :)
LEND A HAND SESSION TIMES
Generally, Lend a Hand sessions are Tuesdays 1:30pm-4:30pm, and Thursdays 12pm-2:30pm. Actual session times may vary. Lend a Hand participants receive a calendar of times.
Please note, you will not be able to attend a session unless invited. Our building security is pretty heavy :)
